SHINING LIGHT ON OUR WORTHY CAUSE HEROES
It’s been a great privilege to be able to experience working in both the client relations and worthy cause relations in the years I’ve been in B1G1.
It has always been heartening to connect with like-minded B1G1 businesses who share the same vision of a world full of giving.
The charity partnership side of B1G1, though, has always been quieter – mostly a series of processes and cycles.
So today, I’m elated to be given an opportunity to shine light on the Worthy Cause program. Our Worthy Cause Partners do seriously amazing things on the ground, working closely with local communities to ensure that their solutions are sustainable, scalable and not disruptive.
Giving is never a one-way street. Both sides give and add value.
It’s great to be able to acknowledge all our existing partners and applaud them for the amazing work they do.
To scale the program even further, B1G1 recently organized the Charity Impact Awards 2017, to recognize high-impact charity organisations that contribute significantly back to society. And concurrently allow them to become aware of the B1G1 Worthy Cause Program where they have the opportunity to receive a sustainable source of funding from giving businesses around the world.
It didn’t matter whether or not the winners ultimately joined B1G1.
In fact, we realised that B1G1 might not be a good fit for every type of cause. For example, a cause that does mostly research work might not have tangible projects that we can list. This does not mean that the cause is not good enough.
It just means that the criteria and processes we put in place are there to ensure that all the work involved in getting them on the site and so on is likely to reflect a significant increase in the flow of funds to them.
This is the first time we’ve ran an award campaign. It was an enlightening experience for the team – learning better processes, and ultimately learning about all the great causes out there that we wouldn’t have otherwise been aware about.
We received many fantastic applications and it was a tough job for the judges shortlisting the winners! Finally, tying quite closely, 5 winners were shortlisted for each award category.

Congratulations once again to the winning organisations! And not forgetting, thank you to all the amazing applicants, to the Judging Panel and the generous business sponsors. The first Charity Impact Awards would not have been possible without you.
As a result of this campaign, we’re currently working on inviting new organisations from all of the award categories. Hoping it all goes through smoothly.
