GIVING GETS AWARDED — AGAIN
Seems like great B1G1 entrepreneurs who give are getting awarded more and more.
The latest to join the group is Annette Lasek, the delightfully titled Chief Energy Officer at LaserZone on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. They have been, and are constantly, doing great things, involving their team, their customers — mostly families and kids — and the wider community.
As a result, they just won Tourism Business of the Year (employing 10 people +). And since it’s the third time LazerZone has won — even though they’re up against the Steve Irwin founded Australia Zoo — they have now been inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Now if you’ve ever won an award or sat in an awards ceremony, the critical thing is the ‘thank you for giving us this award’ speech.
Annette’s is a classic. It educates (the important move from ‘how’ to ‘why’) and the ending is beautifully inspiring. Here it is:
For the previous two years we have been working on HOW we do things in the business, but this year we looked at the more important question of WHY we do what we do.
We reviewed our Intention, or Vision, and decided that we wanted to contribute towards creating a happier, healthier world.
One way in which we are able to achieve that vision is through an organisation called Buy One, Give One or B1G1. Simply put, every time someone buys at Laserzone, they also give to others in need.
For example, for every bottle of water you buy, we give fresh water to a person in Africa, for every birthday party we host, we give a gift to a child living in poverty in India, and for every 100 likes we have on Facebook, we send a goat to a family in need.
So next time you are on the Internet, please have a look at B1G1.com and see how businesses can make the world a better place.
As John Lennon once said; You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one, I hope some day you’ll join us, and the world will live as one.
Many congratulations, Annette. And thank you.
We’re so glad you joined us. And we’re thrilled to be a part of what you’re doing.
