IMPACTFUL: Part 5 – How to use B1G1 to help children in your community
Over the years, one of the things that people have said to me most often is ‘if only there was a way of using B1G1 to help people in my community/area/town/country.’
Well, the good news is that there is. And better still:
… it is proven to work - because I am now in the second year of using it to help almost 500 schoolchildren in my community
… you can use it anywhere in the world – since all you need is a school of any size
… it will take you less than 15 minutes to set up - because I have used my experience to create a really simple two-page step-by-step system containing everything you and the school need
… it’s a great way for your business to stand out by doing something unique with and for your community
… and it’s also a great way to improve your team’s morale and motivation
You can download the entire system, along with dozens of other practical templates for making the most of B1G1, from this page.
And you can see the children using it in Figure 1.
The ‘How’ is really easy
… and it’s all explained in this 6-minute video (which I recorded for you to share with the school you want to help)
STEP 1 – Choose a school
It is entirely up to you which school you do this with. For example, you might choose:
- a school you have some personal or family connection with – perhaps because family members are former or current pupils or teachers (we choose ours because all three of our children used to go there)
- a school you admire
- a school you think needs a helping hand
- a school that has a lot of your current or potential customers amongst its parent base (for example, if you are an accountant you might choose the leading Independent school in your area because a lot of their parent base might need your tax and accounting services)
- or any other kind of school you want to support
You might also choose to offer it to more than one school.
Best of all, if you invite your team members to choose a school each – so that they can make a difference somewhere that matters to them – you will also be doing wonders for team morale and motivation.
STEP 2 – Run the system
The rest of the system works like this:
- As a B1G1 member you use your B1G1 account to create and pre-fund a single B1G1 Enhanced Engagement Tool with, say, $50 of Impact Tokens (There is nothing magical about $50, and you can flex that number up or down to whatever level is right for you).
2. You then give the school a link to the Engagement Tool– so that the children can choose from the 4 projects on the Engagement screen via a cheerometer /show of hands in assembly each week, which makes it a lot of fun for them
3. And to keep it fresh, I suggest that you change one of the projects every week – so there is always something new for the children to choose
All the detailed guidance you need to do all of this – including the ready-to-use email in Figure 3 that you can send to the school to introduce the idea to them – is included in the system.
My chosen school has been using their B1G1 Engagement in school for just over a year, and they love it so much that the Head has invited me to talk to the whole school about it twice.
On both occasions I have seen the teachers and children light up with incredible energy, love, joy and hope… especially hope… when they realise that they really can make a difference.
And in a world full of so much negativity and fear, that sort of realisation and hope is exactly what they need to grow into better global citizens.
So, you really will be helping children in your community to live happier and better lives.
And you really will be putting a huge smile on your own face too.
