Impact in the Land of the Long White Cloud

Some of the most meaningful change begins with something that might otherwise be overlooked.

A tray of perfectly good food that never makes it to someone's table. A quiet wetland where native birds find shelter, often unnoticed by those passing by.

These are the places where our newest Worthy Causes are making an extraordinary difference.

And so we're delighted to welcome them to the B1G1 Movement!

KiwiHarvest: Nourishing Communities Through Food Rescue

Imagine walking through a supermarket at the end of the day. The shelves are being restocked, deliveries have arrived, and perfectly good food that can no longer be sold is being set aside.

For many organisations, that's where the story ends.

For KiwiHarvest, it's where the story begins.

Founded in 2012, KiwiHarvest was created with a simple but powerful idea: if good food is still safe to eat, it shouldn't go to waste. Instead, it should reach people who need it most.

Working with supermarkets, growers, manufacturers, cafés, restaurants and other food businesses across New Zealand, KiwiHarvest rescues surplus food that would otherwise end up in landfill.

Every day, that food is carefully collected and delivered to charities and community organisations, where it becomes nutritious meals for families, children and individuals experiencing hardship.

In doing so, KiwiHarvest isn't only addressing food insecurity. They're also reducing food waste and preventing unnecessary greenhouse gas emissions, showing that one act of rescue can create many layers of impact.

It's a beautifully simple idea: nourish people, care for the planet, and make the most of what we already have.

Through B1G1, you can become part of that story by supporting their projects:

Te Tauihu Environment Trust: Helping Nature Flourish Again

At the top of New Zealand's South Island, rivers meet the sea, native forests stretch across the landscape, and wetlands provide sanctuary for countless plants and animals.

These beautiful places are also fragile.

For more than 25 years, Te Tauihu Environment Trust has been helping communities care for the natural environments they call home.

Rather than leading every project themselves, they work alongside local groups, landowners, iwi (Māori tribes) and volunteers, bringing people together to restore habitats, protect biodiversity and ensure these special places continue to thrive.

One of their important areas of focus is wetlands.

Although they often go unnoticed, wetlands are among the most valuable ecosystems on Earth.

They filter water, store carbon, reduce flooding and provide essential habitat for native wildlife, including threatened species such as the mātātā (fernbird).

Restoring a wetland isn't something that happens overnight. It takes patience, care and many hands working together over time. But every area restored creates a healthier home for wildlife and a stronger environment for future generations.

Through B1G1, you can help make that possible.

Every Small Act Becomes Part of a Bigger Story

A meal that feeds a family.

A square metre of wetland that becomes a safe home for wildlife.

Small acts like these may seem simple on their own, but together they create healthier communities, stronger ecosystems and a more hopeful future.

We're honoured to welcome KiwiHarvest and Te Tauihu Environment Trust to the B1G1 Movement, and we're excited to see the difference we'll create together.
