DAVID DUGAN: WHY GROW YOUR BUSINESS?
The purpose-driven business series features a different Business for Good to showcase their unique giving stories. We hope these stories inspire you with interesting, new and joyful ideas on how to integrate giving into your business.
We all seek growth and measure data to chart our accomplishments. But what do we seek with growth? What is the final goal in life? How does one measure “goodness”? This business knows the answer.
INTRODUCING…DAVID DUGAN!

CAN YOU GIVE US A SENSE OF WHY YOU DECIDED TO START GIVING?
I founded my Elite500 Mastermind Mentoring Program on the belief that all entrepreneurs can give back to the community in some way. So the concept of giving was foundational in our business, and it still is. Our philosophy is one of “to whom much is given, much is required”.
Growing our business and those of our clients is of little value without a reason for doing so.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE PROJECT(S) TO GIVE TO AND WHY?
Our mission is to support entrepreneurs in the community and giving them the tools to build sustainable businesses that support themselves, their families and ultimately their community – donating to health and education is a big part of that. Access to clean water and food, access to proper healthcare and the ability to seek education in safety are causes we are particularly passionate about.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE IMPACT B1G1 HAS HAD ON YOUR COMPANY AND ITS CULTURE?
Unlike conventional giving models, B1G1 helps achieve social impact by embedding giving activities in everyday business operations. It means the business owners in our Elite500 community are able to make a real and measurable impact on people’s lives, everyday. Giving is no longer an intangible concept and that is truly transformative.
WHAT’S THE BEST EXPERIENCE YOU’VE HAD THROUGH YOUR GIVING ACTIVITIES AND BEING A PART OF B1G1?
One of the best experiences we have with B1G1 is seeing the giving impacts. Knowing the facts and figures such as giving 661,820 days access to clean water, or that 7,262 meals were provided to people in need, rather than straight monetary figures is so encouraging. And so is the confidence in knowing that real good is being done.
DOES ANYBODY IN YOUR TEAM HAVE AN INTERESTING GIVING STORY TO SHARE?
One of our team members was able to see first hand how medical care that we often take for granted can have a huge impact on people’s lives.
Through work with The Fred Hollows Foundation, the simple operation to remove cataracts meant a man was able to see again for the first time in many years, and was able to support his family once again. Bearing witness to something so impactful is life changing.
