Changing the World, Two Minutes at a Time: The Two Minute Foundation
Have you ever wondered how long it takes to make a real difference? For The Two Minute Foundation, the answer is simple: just 120 seconds! We're thrilled to welcome this incredible organization as our newest B1G1 Worthy Cause.
Born from a Surfer's Vision
The Two Minute Foundation began with Martin Dorey, a writer, surfer, and environmental activist who was troubled by the mounting plastic pollution on his local beaches. In 2013, after a series of devastating winter storms washed up unprecedented amounts of plastic waste along the UK coastline, Martin launched the #2minutebeachclean campaign. His simple call to action—spend just two minutes cleaning up, take a photo, and share it with the hashtag—resonated with people around the world and sparked a global movement.
Martin's passion for protecting the oceans he loves turned a personal concern into an organization that now inspires millions to take action. His vision has grown from a hashtag into a registered charity that's changing how we think about environmental responsibility.
Small Actions, Massive Impact
What started as a simple hashtag has blossomed into a global movement with #2minutebeachclean appearing in more than 200,000 social media posts worldwide!
More and more people started to realize just how easy it is to clean up their beach for just two minutes," shares Claire Giner, Head of Education at The Two Minute Foundation. "And inevitably, two minutes leads to more.
As momentum built online, communities began connecting, and The Two Minute Foundation created "cleanup stations"—physical stations equipped with everything needed for impromptu litter pickups. Today, an impressive 1,200 of these stations dot the UK landscape.
Make an Impact Through B1G1 Projects
Businesses can now directly support The Two Minute Foundation through two impactful B1G1 projects:
1. Sponsor Community Education on Beach and Ocean Health
This project helps fund educational workshops and materials that increase awareness about marine pollution and empower communities to take action. By supporting this initiative, businesses contribute to changing mindsets around litter and plastic pollution, creating long-term behavioral change.
Each contribution helps The Two Minute Foundation reach more schools, community groups, and individuals with their message of environmental stewardship. The educational programs emphasize how small, consistent actions can lead to significant positive change for our oceans and beaches.
2. Provide and Maintain Cleanup Stations in the Community
The second project focuses on the foundation's innovative cleanup stations—practical tools that make impromptu litter collection easy and accessible. Contributions help install new stations and maintain existing ones across coastal and inland communities.
Each station serves as both a practical tool and a visible reminder of our collective responsibility to care for our environment. By supporting this project, businesses help create infrastructure that enables thousands of individual "two minute" actions, multiplying their impact exponentially.
A Perfect Match with B1G1
When Josie Dean, Partnership Manager at the foundation, learned about B1G1, she immediately saw the potential:
I love the idea that businesses can spread their donations across a variety of causes. The fact that they can contribute in such small units and track their impacts—that's really powerful.
The Two Minute Foundation's vision is beautifully ambitious yet wonderfully accessible: "to clean up the planet two minutes at a time." As they join the B1G1 community of Worthy Causes, we're excited to be able to amplify their incredible work.
Everyone's got the power to change the world in just two minutes, Martin and his team remind us.
