8 Things You May Not Know About the B1G1 System — And How They Can Enhance Your Joy of Giving

Giving should never feel like another administrative task.

At its best, giving and making a difference creates energy. It reminds you why your work matters, helps your team feel connected to something larger and turns everyday business progress into meaningful impact.

Over the years, the B1G1 system has developed to include many features and enhancements designed to make giving easier, more engaging and more joyful. Some of them are used often. Others are quietly waiting to be discovered.

So here are eight things you may not know about your B1G1 account and how they can help you get even more from your Business for Good journey.

1. The Search Bar Can Take You Almost Anywhere

At the top left of your B1G1 Dashboard (on every screen) , you will find a simple search bar.

B1G1 has developed many special features over the years, and it is easy to forget where everything is located. The search bar removes that friction.

You can use it to search not only for projects, but also for tools and features within your account.

For example, you can type “education” to explore education-related projects or type the name of a feature such as “widget” or “counter” to find the embeddable impact counters for your website. You can also type “impact” to find your impact history and related tools or type “team” to find your team management features

Sometimes, making giving easier is as simple as helping you find the right thing in a few seconds.

2. Finding Projects Got Even Easier

Now, you can search for the projects you’ve given to before more easily on the project list (we’ve added an option to filter projects based on the projects you gave before!)

You can also find your Favourite Projects more easily on your Recurring Impact canvas. If you have more than 10 Favorites, the search field appears automatically.

These enhancements are made because of the feedback from our Members. So, please do keep letting us know how we can make the giving experience even better for you too!

The B1G1 Resource Library has continued to grow over the years.

You can now find a range of guides, ideas and templates to help you integrate giving into your business and communicate your impact more meaningfully.

These resources can help you see:

  • how to share your impact with customers
  • how to involve your team
  • how to celebrate milestones through giving
  • how to talk about your giving without making it feel promotional
  • how to make giving part of your ongoing business communication

One important tip is to make sure the right people in your business can access these resources.

When you add your team members as Admin or Business User on your company account, they can see the projects, stories, images and impact information available for the business giving.

This makes it easier for your giving to become even more integrated into your  everyday communication.

4. Your Impact Report Can Bring Many Projects Into One Clear Story

Most B1G1 Members support a wide variety of projects over time.

You may have helped protect native forests through several environmental initiatives in different countries. You may have given meals through different food programs, or helped create access to education through multiple projects around the world.

Looking at each project individually is meaningful. But sometimes, you also want to understand the bigger picture.

The impact sorting functionality in your Impact History allows you to bring related impacts together by category.

You can see your global total impact of meals provided, days of education, access to clean water, healthcare support, income-generating opportunities, forest protection…..and so much more!

This is especially useful when preparing annual reports, team updates, customer communications, presentations or milestone celebrations.

Often, the joy of giving becomes even greater when we can finally see the accumulated difference.

5. Commitment Setting and Monthly Giving Create a Natural Rhythm

All B1G1 businesses want to give consistently.

But without a clear commitment and a giving rhythm, even the best intentions can become irregular. That’s why setting a giving commitment can be so valuable.

A commitment helps your business decide, in advance, what level of giving feels meaningful, appropriate and sustainable.

It might be an annual amount or a monthly amount (we usually recommend around 1% of your net revenue to go toward your broader social and environmental contribution). Once your intention is clear, setting up automated monthly giving can create a natural rhythm of impact (you can set it up on your dashboard).

This rhythm does several important things.

First, it makes giving consistent.

Second, it helps your giving grow over time.

Through Impact Partnership recognition, B1G1 Members move through different levels as their journey continues.

Each year of fulfilling the benchmark, you can be recognized as a Silver, Gold and Platinum Impact Partner.

After reaching Platinum, the recognition continues through stars awarded for longer-term partnership. Rather than moving to a new level every year, Members receive additional stars for each further five-year period of participation. The current highest recognition is Platinum with two stars.
